Digital Photography Assignment: Portraits

I enjoy black & white portraits. I used Photoshop Elements to play with the saturation. I hope it is not too dark now. Honest and gentle critiques are most welcome.

  2. I think it is a great portrait! The expression is fantastic, and it is really brought out by the close cropping. The eyes! Love 'em. The exposure looks to be perfect, and it wasn't too dark at all for me (though I know this can depend on our monitors to a degree), and you could probably darken it more if you preferred.

The only thing I'd change if I could would be to bounce the flash to eliminate the shadows on the wall behind. I'm not very good at indoor lighting, but I recently got a separate flash so I could start to play with these things. I know there are ways to bounce the built in flash, at least the pop-up flashes, using envelopes and rubber bands! Or so I have read on the 'net someplace. Worth trying to see what you can come up with!

But that's really just a nit-pick, because this is a great portrait as is. :)

  3. I really love this picture as well. Possum looks a bit like my old cat Kiwi who lived to the ripe old age of 17. My only suggestions be careful with the cropping, possums ear is just a little cut off on one side.

  4. I think it looks pretty. My Mommie tells me it is hard to handle the camera in one hand and wrangle me with the other hand and still take a decent photo!

  5. That is a startlingly memorable photo.

I can't tell if it's the light, or the B&W, or the pose, or just the expression, but you took a winner.
