More About Me

More about me:  JD2718
Jonathan at JD2718 tagged me with this new meme and I've taken long enough to respond to it. Of course, we have to start with the rules:
  1. The rules of the game get posted at the beginning.
  2. Each player answers the questions about themselves.
  3. At the end of the post, the player then tags 5-6 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog.
  4. Let the person who tagged you know when you’ve posted your answer.
1) What was I doing 10 years ago?
I was teaching mathematics in an alternative high school in Connecticut. I had been a widow for four years. My children (here, here, here, and here) had finished graduating high school and I was a grandmother to Wingnut!

2) What are 5 things on my to-do list for today (not in any particular order):
  • Fill out registration form for a summer class for Teaching Mathematics to LD and/or ADHD Students.
  • Continue work on Probabilities Reasoning Workshop I am taking online.
  • Read
3) Snacks I enjoy:
  • Chocolate Fudge Brownie
  • Butter Pecan
  • Willy Nelson's Country Peach Cobbler
(I'm on the Ben & Jerry's Diet)

4) Things I would do if I were a billionaire:
  • Do all the work on my house that needs to be done, including painting and floors and roof.
  • Get all the furniture I need.
  • Get a real car and get rid of this Saturn.
  • Put aside just enough so that I could retire and be rich.
  • Give the rest to my kids.
5) Three of my bad habits:
Why do they always ask this?

6) 5 places I have lived:
  • Connecticut
  • Azores
  • Virginia
  • back to Connecticut
  • Vermont
7) 5 jobs I have had:
  • Campaign worker for Lowell Weicker, Jr (even though I was a Democrat. But I was getting paid to make campaign calls and was in high school).
  • A life guard.
  • A Manpower worker at a factory that printed and mailed national magazines. I got Paul Newman's magazine ready to be mailed!
  • Selling books at Christmas time in Hartford's best department store, G. Fox & Co., where I met my husband.
  • Office manager for my husband's electronics business.

6 people I want to know more about:
  1. Sandy Carlson because she is so spiritual and supportive.
  2. Colin Campbell because his posts are interesting and his sense of humor is neat.
  3. byrningbunny because she is so fascinating and lives in a wonderful place.
  4. Misty who is becoming a great friend.
  5. Jams O Donnell because his photographs are wonderful and he loves cats.
  6. Amar because of his music, mathematics and cats.

Want To Know More?

photo: Icicles on Metal Roof detail

I was tagged with two memes this past day. They nicely complement each other, so I invite anyone who would like to join these to do so. I tag all my readers.

Dorothy started a new writing blog, Windsongs of the Heart, which pleases me greatly. Her writing is something I look forward to every week. She is mom to Gretchen, the lovely tortie. She tagged me with the Book Meme. Here are the rules:
1. Grab the nearest book of 123 pages or more.
2. Open it to page 123.
3. Find the first 5 sentences and write them down.
4. Then invite 5 friends to do the same.

The nearest book is Seven Life Lessons of Chaos: Spiritual Wisdom from the Science of Change by John Briggs. This book was recommended to me by Sandy Carlson of Writing in Faith and One Single Impression. I am anxious to begin it. The first five six sentences from page 123 are:
To take one example, computer models suggest that it might be possible to heal the hole that our use of fluorocarbons has created in the atmosphere's ozone layer by using a fleet of large planes to spray 50,000 tons of propane or ethane into the South polar sky. Some scientists have theorized the hydrocarbon spray would set off a chemical reaction that could prevent the seasonal destruction of the ozone that protects us from the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays. This would be a clevel technical solution, but would it be a genuinely "rational" one? If we let our new sense of rationality guide us, we see immediately that mechanically piling one technology upon the problems created by other technologies will only perpetuate the mind-set that is destroying our natural world.

If we viewed our environment aesthetically, with this new sense of reason, as well as logically, analytically, and mechanically, wouldn't we want to live in it differently? And wouldn't it, in turn, be able to nourish us more deeply?
Mary Taitt of No Polar Coordinates has sent on the Seven Random Facts Meme. I have done this twice before (here and here). Here are my seven random facts:
  1. I'm allergic to Benadryl, bees and some antibiotics.
  2. I should carry an Epi-pen at all times but I won't.
  3. I have overcome a horror of spiders by photographing them last summer.
  4. The inside of my car is a disgusting mess.
  5. My new camera is now delayed until May. Bummer.
  6. Don't tell Anna, but if ever I need to be cared for, I'm moving into her New Haven home.
  7. I want to be a photographer poet instead of a teacher.
I challenge you to participate in these memes. I'm off now to read the responses of others.

Scattergories Meme

Dorothy tagged me for the "Scattergories" meme.
Here are the rules:
Use the 1st letter of your name to answer each of the questions. They must be real places, names, things . . . nothing made up! If you can't think of anything, skip it. You CAN'T use your name for the boy/girl name question. If your name happens to start with the same letter as mine, sorry, but you can't use my answers!
First of all, which name? My real name or meeyauw? I could play dirty and use both if the going gets rough! No: I'll use A for my real name. Some of these were rough but I found a couple of interesting sites when I googled stuff. I also learned how to make quick and dirty tables in Blogger. (Note: you cannot use TAB to make your columns; you have to use the space bar for this to work.)
