Lady is Groomed by Matt

Matt (a certified groomer) and Amelia (a certified trainer) volunteer at the Frontier Animal Society in Orleans, VT. Lady, the Shih Tzu mix featured here, was surrendered by her owner who bragged that a comb had never touched the dog. Which was unfortunate. The mats around Lady's mouth were so serious that it was difficult for the dog to eat. Matt could not use clippers on lady's face because of the mats.

Tears come to my eyes when I see how happy Lady is after her lovingly-done grooming.

Orleans County Quests: Orleans Village Quest

The quest began at Orleans Elementary School

The Dana Carbonneau Memorial Garden

Dana Carbonneau, the principal of Orleans Elementary School, was estimated to be the eleventh person ever killed in Vermont because of a collision with a moose after he hit one in Woodbury on June 13, 2003. The first human fatality was in the early 1980s, said Mr. Hamelin.

The photo above is by Wingnut. He was very interested in this because it is so different than the ones in Connecticut.


The first log cabin in Orleans, built by Paul and David McNeal in 1827. It is only 15 square feet. There was no sugarhouse vent then, of course. Seen on Cottage St, Orleans in somebody's backyard.

Wingnut Chases the Train

For five years, Wingnut and I have been trying to take good photos of the daily train in Barton. We came close on Monday, July 14. We were in Orleans ordering a pie when the train came down from Barton. We stopped here to catch a photo and then went into the Ethan Allen parking lot for more.

The train hauls a lot of frieght for Ethan Allen and was disconnecting and reconnecting cars for over an hour here.

Sugar on Snow Supper

Amelia, me and two of her friends went to the Sugar on Snow Supper tonight at the Orleans Federated Church. There were plates of ham, potato salad, beans, cole slaw and rolls on each table. Then we were given our own bowl of snow, warm pitchers of maple syrup, pickles, and plates of plain baked doughnuts. We are stuffed! It is too cold outside tonight to do anything except watch movies. We hope you are warm as we sit beneath dogs, cats, and blankets while we watch Ratatouille.

Rock Climbing in Orleans

The Outdoors Club from Lake Region High School was learning how to climb rocks on a road cut in Orleans, Vermont at the intersection of Routes 5 and 58 on September 25, 2007. I was given permission to photograph and I was very careful to not get any faces. The entire set of photos can be seen in my web gallery here or in my Flickr set here.
