Birding Again in Killington

We went birding in Killington at 6:30 AM. We went to the River Road and Roaring Brook Road. The mountains were covered in mist and the clouds were dark and low.

The mosquitoes were so awful that we soon gave up and left.

On our way to the car, I spotted this song sparrow in a tree and caught it on camera.

Even though the weather was again dark and rainy, I managed to get some detail of the bird. I am still learning how to use iPhoto on the photos.

Wildflowers: Naked Broomrape and Unknown Flower

Naked Broomrape (Cancer Root)

Naked Broomrape (Cancer Root)

Unknown Wildflower

Unknown Wildflower

vtpeacenik (of Flickr) says of the unknown flower:
I checked a book and this seems to be either a Three-leaved False Solomon's-Seal...otherwise known as Smilacina Trifolia. That has 6-pointed flowers. OR...Wild Lily-of-the-Valley, otherwise known as Canadian Mayflower. That one has 4-pointed flowers.
Thank you, vt!
Both flowers were found on the Appalachian Trail in Killington, VT.

Another Dandelion, Another Fly, and A Buggy Dandelion

My best so far!

A pretty, wet fly.

Small slugs or snails on old dandelions.
(Camera battery then died so this is the best I got.)

Killington Beaver Dam

These photos can't capture the fantasic experience of standing at the dam and seeing the water perfectly lap at the very top of the dam. The drowned trees and meadow behind can barely be seen. Camera batteries died after the second photo.
