Here is a shiny beetle I found. It is a beetle, not a cockroach! I used iPhoto to enlarge it and ImageWell to make it fancy.
I have spent all morning trying to make gubbles on GIMP because they are shiny. But it didn't work. Now it is 1 PM, my grandson is coming for his summer-long visit at any moment, and I have not done anything to prepare! Thank goodness little boys don't notice dirt too much!
Thank you for stopping by. I am looking forward to everyone else's interpretation of "shiny." Have a great weekend!

Wow you made that roach look good! Happy hunting :)
ReplyDeleteoooh, mmm, not keen on creepy crawlies I'm afraid, but undoubtedly a great shot!
ReplyDeleteLittle boys are wonderful, they don't care about anything being ready or not. I had two myself and live in hope of having a grandchild someday!
How fun!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your summer company. I look forward to hearing all about what you are up too :)
Before I got to your words, I thought, Eeeek - a cockroach! But you say it is a beetle, what sort of beetle is it, cause it sure looks like a cockroach to me.
ReplyDeleteHi everybody!
ReplyDeleteI assure you it isn't a cockroach! At Angelo's first mention of it, I rushed off to bugguide.com and asked for emergency help!
It is Species Cantharis livida (soldier beetle).
Let me tell you: it set MY mind at ease!
Thank you for visiting.
That's a nice photo, but I wouldn't want to run into him!
ReplyDeleteBrrrkk, I can't stand beetles at all, even when they are shiny, lol !
ReplyDeleteoops! Sorry I thought it was a roach! hehe, but on closer inspection I see the Soldier Beetle now :) I should have looked more carefully, sorry :D
ReplyDeleteI think you probably freaked out a couple of people with a bug as a entry ;)
ReplyDeleteNice one. :D
very original interpretation of the theme! nicely done!
ReplyDeletethanks for stopping by! enjoy your grandson!
Well you did a great job on that beetle. I wish I knew how to fix things. I just point and shoot. You did well by the shiny theme.
ReplyDeleteI thought at first that it's a cockroach. Thanks for the information. Great shot! :)
ReplyDeleteNow that's a pretty beetle. I like insects, me! Happy weekend
ReplyDeleteGreat job and it definitely looks shiny. I've always been fascinated with insects. Happy Hunting!
ReplyDeleteYep - it's shiny! Creepy and yet shiny! Ewwwww!!
ReplyDeleteThat's one shiny creepy crawler. Interesting choice for the hunt!
ReplyDeleteGreat close up! If you like enhancing your pictures give Picasa a try, it is free from Google.
ReplyDeleteI am honored to have u visit. may i link u so I can visit u more often to read yr stuff?
ReplyDeleteIt's shiny but it's also a creepy crawly eek.
ReplyDeleteDon't be silly, I wasn't distressed! hehe :D
ReplyDeleteBTW, I was meaning to say, that if you do plan a trip to the ROM, you should check out the schedule of open exhibits on their website first, coz they've closed off parts of the crystal right now to set up the new exhibits. Of course the old parts of the museum are open. I guess it depends on what you want to see. I'm partial to the natural history exhibits, and I think the dinosaurs won't be ready until December? Anyway, if you don't already know, their website is www.rom.on.ca
Oh and back to the bug, I learned something new too. I never knew those things were called soldier beetles!
The beetle is good but the phubble on your flickr is amazing. The list of instructions was something else - wow you have patience.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to look into GIMP myself, though I doubt I could ever do what you do.
Thanks for visiting,
Frances
Very unique!! Great photo with all the detail!
ReplyDeleteThat gave me the creeps because the photo looks so real it seems ready to turn around and jump on you, :D My imaginations running wild.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week! Love your other posts and photos especially Mead's Falls.
That is a shiny bug. Quite handsome. You changed your thumbnail image from the cat's eye! The new one is nice too.
ReplyDeleteI'm not much of a fan of bugs, shiny or otherwise, but it's definitely a creative shot!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!
Um, ick. Yo no quiero bugs. Of any kind. Especially shiny ones! :-)
ReplyDeleteHope you had a great, bug-free weekend!
That's a pretty beetle, not that I want it to crawl on me or anything! Boys don't mind dirt at all...they love it!
ReplyDeleteYou said it's a beetle. It's not so near to being pretty. It looks like a cockroach to me. It's making me shudder.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit.
Wow. You really took a great shot
ReplyDeleteWoah, that's a cool one. Great job working with the picture too. Nice choice for The Hunt. Thanks for stopping by and have fun with your grandson.
ReplyDeleteYikes! I know you said it's not a cockroach and furnished proof re it but I've seen a lot of cockroaches in my life and it sure looks like one to me!!! ;DDD
ReplyDeleteP.S. A VERY original "Shiny" entry there! :)
