Wild Edibles: Wintergreen

Gaultheria procumbens
I'm in New Hampshire again and John showed me wintergreen growing by the roadside. Wintergreen is also called Teaberry or Checkerberry. Harvest the leaves any time of year, and harvest the berries from fall through winter. The berries improve with freezing. Use the leaves as trail nibble or brew into tea. Add to pancakes and muffins, or make uncooked jam.
