Common Snipe

Common Snipe

Capella gallinago

These birds have a very unique call. Once you learn it you will always recognize it. They poke their bill into the ground but I don't know what they are looking for. There are always two around – one on each side of the beaver meadows calling to each other. I have not noticed any special time of day that they speak to each other. When one has something to say, the other responds.
