Heads or Tails: Halloween

This bat is a real-life character in one of my real-life bat encounters.
You must click on this to see the large version in a new window.

I used Photoshop Elements, diffuse glow filter and mezzotint with edge blur, an iPhoto effect. This was done in conjunction with Rachel Clark Design's Friday Filter Challenge.

  1. I don't care much for bats, although their only a mouse with wings but they carry rabies and they are about on the same level with spiders as far as I am concerned.

  3. Once ------- YEARS ago, in high school our biology class took a field trip to a cave near the mountains in my hometown....it was the most wonderful unique experience ever. I still remember the day vividly. And the bats? The place was literally wall to wall bats. Fascinating creatures. And truly very SOFT to the touch.

I'm doing the Heads or Tails for the first time ever. Come over and join me in my Halloween tail if you have some time.

  4. Do you think that is a FROOTBAT? That is my most favorite kind of bat.

  5. I think we need more bats around here to take care of the mosquitoes. But I don't really want to encounter any of them.

  10. Cool photo! I found a bat when I was a kid with it's baby bats tucked under it's wings. I brought it to my family where we nursed it back to health. They are so scary looking, but really not vicious.

  11. Bats are interesting creatures. As long as they stay far away from me, I'm good.
    Happy Halloween!

  12. No. I'd not like to have a real life encounter with that....

  13. Eww. I don't do real life bat encounters. In my house, that is. The bat cave at the museum was very cool though.

  14. That reminds me of some of my own bat encounters...when it comes to bats my husband and bil are a little squirmish(more like duck and cover while squealing like littles girls)lol and the women have to get the job done! lOL

  15. That bat photo is very interesting. I think they are quite amazing creatures, although I wouldn't want one in my bedroom like you had that time.

Even in the large version of the photo it is hard to tell which way is up, isn't it!

  16. I experienced a close bat encounter before when one suddenly swooped down on me. I was scared but there was probably an insect near me or something that the bat badly wanted. Ha ha!

That's a great picture. Love the way you made it appear more interesting with the photo effects. Nicely done.
