This was Youth Weekend in Vermont: a weekend of youthful hunting in the woods.
I have twelve fifth and sixth graders in my homeroom. Here are the numbers:
- 92% have used a gun
- 67% hunt (deer, moose, bear, game birds, coyote, etc)
- 58% own their very own hunting rifle
All of the students take Hunter Safety. They are not going out willy-nilly. And they all go out with a licensed adult.

I'm not a fan of hunting, I'm afraid. Having said that, it's good the kids are being safe with it all.
ReplyDeleteI hope you're feeling better now, Andree. Colds can really drag on...so I hope yours is doing the right thing and leaving you alone.
Take care.
Are kids in VT allowed to use bows? Do they chose not to?
ReplyDeletehappy tuesday.. love the npr music link in the previous post..
ReplyDeleteBoth of my boys hunt and now it deer season in North Idaho.
ReplyDeleteAt this very minute there a large heard of elk in the field and elk season is over.
