Booking Through Thursday: Habit-Forming

Booking Through Thursday: Habit-Forming

What are your reading habits? Do you tend to read at specific times during the day, or does it vary from day to day, hour to hour, minute to minute?

Don't forget to leave a link to your actual response in the comments--or if you prefer, leave your answers in the comments themselves!

Habit or way of life? I can go long stretches without reading because of work and then go through periods when all I do is read. I find that I read more in the summer than winter. Most likely this is because of the better light and more time. Reading in bed? It is seldom possible without immediately falling asleep!

In the summer I get up with the sun and sit on the porch and read for hours. Every summer I read one Stephen King book. I look forward to that and save it for the summer. If not careful, it can consume the day. I deliberately wallow in fiction by my favorite authors. I also pick one new author to discover each summer. I focus my non-fiction reading primarily on Vermont and New England authors.

In the winter this seldom happens except on school vacation weeks. While I read mostly non-fiction all year round, the winter is the time for the really heavy stuff: the mathematics, science and history books. I will occasionally toss in a novel and most likely it will be a classic.

Of course, I always have a book in my purse (which is actually a Bean tote bag!) for any time I can slip in a couple of pages! I also am now using audible.com and iTunes for audiobooks on my iPod which is the greatest!

I'm looking forward to the responses on this week's meme. It'll be fun to see how other people manage their reading time!

  1. Hi Meeyauw, it's a pleasure knowing you! :)

I wish we have winter here, so I can sit by the fire and read all night long! I read mostly fiction books, and self improvement books occasionally. Love this Booking Thru Thursday meme...

  2. Hi Meeyauw! I wish I have porch to sit and read with the sun up. Maybe one of those swing porch thing. It would have bee nice to read it outside when the air is warm and cool.

I find I can read more books in the summer, because it give enough times for me to read and get catch up. I also put books in my purse and carry it around, just in case I needed it ;)

And believe it or not, at one time I would take with me about 20 books when I go visit relatives. It as if I won't have enough books to read to last me for the whole visit or something LOL!

Thanks for visiting my blog! :) Happy Booking Through Thursday!

  3. Wow, great answer! I love to read year round, but there's something more cozy to me about reading in the winter. The whole "curl up in a big chair with a blanket" kind of thing. Maybe a mug of hot cocoa or hot tea too. :) But I love reading in the summer too, when it's warm out and lighter later.

I totally admire anyone who can do audible books. I tried, and couldn't get past the "other" voice in my head! You'd think I'd be used to it, I listen to music all of the time on my iPod, but the books in someone else's voices just don't work for me. Weird quirk I have :)

Have a great day, and thanks for stopping by my blog earlier!

  4. Funny, how reading is so often seasonal, as well as daily or weekly -- I mean not as in "every day," but like seasonal, it can change throughout the given period. I love reading on a winter afternoon.

I think that the only place I can't read is on a plane -- I am almost instantly sleepy!

  5. You made more of this question than I did. Good answer. I never leave home without something to read. I have audible and love it. I listen to books when I commute to work.
