Blame Flickr. OK, blame the cats, too, and global warming. I have put this photo underneath the text so that if you are queasy, you can leave now and not look.
It's been a warm winter as we all know. In November, about Thanksgiving time, I was furiously looking for bugs on which to practice macro photography. I have a Flickr account and wanted The Great Shot. But there were no bugs! It was too warm for snow, but was cold enough for all the bugs outside to disappear. I left the house to go hunting for anything interesting to shoot. I immediately stumbled upon what I find all spring, summer and fall: a dead shrew near my car. My Buddy cat always arranges his kills around my car in the garage (so I will be sure to find them and enjoy mouse stew?). If not for global warming, the poor shrew would have been safe in its burrow underground and Buddy would never have gifted him to me.
When Buddy presents his kills to me I praise and thank him. But he was out hunting again. So I ignored the dead body and continued on my own hunt for photos. I found nothing.
But there was that dead shrew in the garage . . .
I never posted the photo on Flickr. Family members told me I had "gone 'round the bend." Happy Blogging and thank you for visiting!

Eww, but I guess a present is a present, is it not??
ReplyDeleteOK, you win.
ReplyDeleteMom says that's gross. I'm not so sure!
ReplyDeletenow that is gross ... yuck!
ReplyDeleteMy oldest cat likes to leave us things too, but he would put them in shoes or bags for us to find later. I'll never forget when we lived out in a farmhouse and he left a mouse in my oldest daughter's case she used to go to sleep overs, it had been a while since she used it and she found a semi dehydrated mouse.
ReplyDelete:-)
Poor little mouse ! I also get gifts like this, but alive !
ReplyDeleteNobody can comment today "wonderful picture or beautiful picture" he, he ! We have to copy and paste something like "disgusting" !
But .... your picture is really beautiful !
EWE, and double EWE! Well, at least I am not hurling! I am doing much better than I thought I would! lol Sweet cat, at least he keeps his gifts outside! lol
ReplyDeleteat least its not another pic of dog poo *lol* :)
ReplyDeleteNot the best surprise to find waiting for you... Definitely gross!
ReplyDeleteMy father's cat Big Flap (please don't ask) used to play headless mice at his feet all the time.
ReplyDeleteWell, I give it a big eeeeew, but the to the kitties it's their way of saying "I love you."
Happy Saturday my dear,
Frances
Oh, gross indeed!! I remember when I had a cat and he would bring home all of his "treasures" like this!!
ReplyDeleteThat's gross alright. Poor shrew. I guess it was his time to go. I never had a cat before and I find it interesting how a cat likes bring home his "prized possessions."
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting.
Wow that is an impressive kill. Your kitty must love you a whole lot to leave you such a present. I had a friend whose kitty brought home a bird for his owner. Problem was - it was only 1/2 dead and proceeded to fly pathetically around this woman's home.
ReplyDeleteGreat job with "gross!"
Oh my goodness.. how nasty gross!
ReplyDeleteMine is up too.
Hope I can get that image out of my mind now...gross for sure.
ReplyDeleteTake care,
Connie
My photo is up.

ReplyDeleteMy imagination is running wild right now....but the photo isn't as gross as the dead odor I can now smell.

ReplyDeletetoo bad this computer thingy is not scratch and sniff, huh?
ReplyDeletesmiles, bee
Ok this is the grosses thing I have seen so far! Glad my cats don't go out and bring me things like this. The most they do for me is wash my hair ties in their water bowls!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and grossing out on my fly! Have a super Saturday!
The only good shrew is a dead shrew? Perhaps your kitty has been reading Shakespeare.... The Taming of the Shrew? Or perhaps the critter that ate two bags of dog biscuits in one month here is in fact a shrew rather than a roof rat... I just can't get a close enough look at them.
ReplyDeleteNow this would be gross if I were barefooted.
Poor little guy. My cat brings me mice and birds.
ReplyDeleteAw, poor fella. I see dead animals on the road every single day and it never fails to gross me out.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm. My Mommie says this is gross. I think it is very interesting. Wait a minute, I want to look at it some more....
ReplyDeleteGross but not.
ReplyDeleteAwwwwwwww... poor little baby possum. :(
ReplyDeleteOh well, such is life! Pretty gross shot. Thanks for visiting.
ReplyDeleteEwwwww! I hate them critters! That would be gross.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by.
I think shrews are neat. They are insectivores and in one day can often eat their weight in insects because of their high metabolism weight.
ReplyDeletePlus, they are much nastier to kill than a mouse or vole because of their teeth and carnivorous habits.
Your kitty must be very brave!
This was a good GROSS picture!

It’s A Blog Eat Blog World
oh I feel bad for the little guy. I think they are neat and cute also... Great theme, but I still feel so sorry for the little guy!
ReplyDeleteHm, pretty gross. Thanks for visiting my photo.
ReplyDelete(P.S. Toothpaste is safe and should not cause corrosion like that. It's because of the cheap metal and lack of proper finish on the faucet.)
Ok so I find gross interesting.
ReplyDeleteI looked at the photo and I thought... That looks like a shrew! Of course I then saw your label of it.
I have never seen a real shrew before! I have only seen the cartoon one in The Secret of Nimh.
I know it is dead and all, but it IS cool!
mine is up
