Photo Hunters: Happy

I've had a bad night. Mathematics is soothing. I found this puzzle at Let's Play Math and solved it. It's an easy one and has made me happy. I played with my demo of iWork '08 to make this slide. There is no save function on my demo, so I used Grab to make a screen shot of my work. Then I had to use iPhoto to crop it. Click on the jpeg and it will open in a new window, large enough for you to read it.

Happy Hunting. Hope you are all doing well.

  1. This might be the most unusual take on Happy I've seen so far! I've never thought of Math as soothing! lol I wish you lived next door - my daugher is starting Algebra this year in our homeschool.
    Have a Happy weekend!

  2. I was just going to say the same thing as Amy in NY. I think this will win the unusual prize for this week in Photo Hunt.

  4. what a wonderfully unique take on this weeks theme!!

  5. Ouch! Just looking at it makes my head hurt.

Now that I'm retired, I'm HAPPY that I don't have to deal with math much any more. I don't even do the checkbook. Karen takes care of that.

However, it math puzzles make you happy, it's a nice and different take on the theme.

  6. lol at amy's comment. I don't like Maths. Oops. Doing complicated Maths problems give me headaches.

  10. Math makes you happy? Really? Really, really?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Wow, I haven't even looked at an equation in over 10 years!

  12. Trust a math teacher to find such puzzles soothing. I agree with Mike & ECL above. And I have a bigger headache because, I know you're not going to believe this, I just came back from peeking in at a math quiz in my daughter's school. It had 6 teams from different schools all fighting it out to give answers to complicated (to me) math puzzles in under two minutes - with the solutions worked out in a piece of paper. No guess work accepted.
Try this on for size: What are the prime factors of 9991 (clue there are only 2) & how do you arrive at the answer. I had no idea but the kids finished in under 45 seconds and got a bonus for being under one minute. Wow. Thank God I'm in medicine.

And before I forget, Great idea for the theme meeyauw :)

  16. Yikes -- have never thought of maths as soothing! But, hey, different strokes for different folks and all that! ;D

  17. Well, what can I say...... it's not so much that I hate Maths - rather, Maths seems to hate me (you see, Maths and I would NEVER be happy together!!). But the first thought that came into my mind when I saw your pic was: HAPPY SMILEY! And it actually made me smile LOL! So I guess, it qualifies for HAPPY.

  18. Very cool! Sorry to hear you had a bad night. Logic or mathematics puzzles can definitely be soothing if you have an aptitude for that sort of thing! My mom says it can be very satisfying to solve a difficult mathematical puzzle or equation.

  19. Now that's is a great take on this week's theme. Maths was never my forte.. I still have nightmares about calculus! Have a great weekend

    ReplyDelete
  24. Right. OK. Well, it takes all sorts :) While I enjoy statistics and problem solving, I can't say I would be likely to do puzzles like that to make myself happy.

    Definitely first prize for originality!

  25. Hmmm...solving mathematical questions and puzzles indeed do make me happy too. Nice and unusual shot for the theme. Happy weekend! http://crizlai.blogspot.com/2007/08/photo-hunters-happy.html

    You're my hero.

Can you share your secret with my boys? lol

    ReplyDelete
  33. wow, that is a great way to get happy. It probably wouldn't work for me at all but I understand the joy of solving puzzles and the happiness it brings.

  34. thanks for visiting mine.

wow! Math makes you happy? That's new.. =)

    ReplyDelete
  35. My Dad would have so loved you! He too found math to be very relaxing, as does my sister now, so I do understand .. :) Happy solving!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Very original! I will offer this up as proof that God made us all individuals. That wouldn't make me happy at all! :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Sorry you had a bad night. I'm having a lot of those, lately.

Don't think I'd choose maths puzzles to soothe me, though. They'd drive me nuts!

    Well done.

  38. I could think of many other things, but hey if it work for you then i am happy

    ReplyDelete
  39. I suppose we all find happiness in different ways! =) Personally, I love algebra and geometry, but my daughter (the subject of my happy, btw) would consider this a nightmare! Thanks for making this week's theme interesting! Blessings!

  40. Good take - some people do crosswords...

    ReplyDelete
  41. You and my dad both. (He was a math teacher until he turned computer teacher. :)) I won't even try to understand it--just kudos to you for enjoying it. Though I must say I do love classical music--especially Mendelson. :)

  42. Math makes me happy too, there are rules and they always apply.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I hope one day I'll find it soothing as well.
    Great take!

Thanks for checking mine this week!

    Your FL furiends,

  45. Have you ever played Blokus? My husband bought it for his intermediate math teachers a few years back and then one for us too. We love it and so do the kids.

    Nice happy thoughts to you.

  46. This would NOT make me happy!! I have never liked Math!! Never!! I must have some part of my brain that shuts down when it comes to numbers!! smile!! I am so happy for you though. I loved this word today!! HAPPY!!

  48. Amy said it all...math makes me a wreck!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Okaaaay...it's not something that would make me happy...more likely drive me crazy...lol.

Still, I'm glad it did the trick for you.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Hmm, I can't say that doing math puzzles soothes me, but I know others like you, just not sure where y'all come from. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  51. This is great! Math used to make me happy too, but I haven't thought "math" in so long that it is now becoming foreign. I always liked how tidy, and orderly, and organized it seemed. I wish life were a bit more like that. Enjoy your weekend!

PS. Sorry the swimming there was not good this year.

  52. Math and I aren't best buddy. I did basic algebra or now I think they call here Pre algebra and I got a D in it and it was a struggle for me.
Letters and numbers don't go to gather.
I'll copy off the math problem and see if one of my boys can figure it out.

I didn't do photo hunt this time around. I just complain about a job application I fill out.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Wow, you are totally my hero. You see Math and I...well, I'm just not good at it. In my mind, it's this snarling, vicious beast and you tamed it. Happy day, indeed.

  54. Very very interesting.
I am going to look into all the programs you used.
    Thanks for visiting me.

  55. I hope things are going better for you. As for math being "soothing," I have a math phobia - it's always been my worst subject. Very interesting take on this weeks theme!

  56. Thanks for stopping by.

    Interesting approach.
I like to do logic puzzles for fun sometimes, so I can completely relate!

  57. I admire people who are good in math. i am so poor. if i look at it, perhaps i will fall asleep.:)

great take on theme! happy sunday!

    ReplyDelete
  58. The solving part would make me happy. The doing the solving...not so much! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  59. now that's definitely one of a kind. a really unique take on this week's theme :D

  60. I like your unique interpretation for Happy. Personally, I'm not too fond of math and I admire people who do.

    Thanks for the visit.

  63. I think you are the first person I know that is happy solving math-puzzles :) - Too cute. No, I take that back, our son is a 'walking' calculator.

Thank you for sharing this week and thank you so much for stopping by yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  64. That's definitely the most unusual 'happy' I've seen!

    Great interpretation.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Wow! How neat is that?! I'm no math wiz though! Writing is more up my alley to feeling happy! Thanks for stopping by!

    ReplyDelete
  66. I reckon challenging things can make a person happy -- different strokes for different folks. I like math but am not good with high level math anymore. . . My happiness comes from walking, like when I completed the Portland marathon.

    Come and see mine.

  67. Oh my, I used to be a math whiz and even got a math award in high school, but this one looks like I may pull a brain muscle! Glad it made you happy though! Thanks for visiting.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I've never heard of anyone thinking of math as soothing!

    Thanks for stopping by. :)

  69. I wouldn't come close to finding math as soothing, but if it works, that is fantastic. We only had simple math in school, the Algebra came the year I graduated. Today I find many of the younger folks that can't even count out change right. Great take on the theme, and if it makes you happy, then happy it is!

  70. Now that's definitely one happy moment that not many people enjoy including myself but as long as it brings you joy that's what matters :) Here's mine
