I LOVE VT baked beans. I used maple syrup too! But I also use soldier or yellow eyes instead of navy beans and I also add 1 small onion. It's funny, because I don't like onions but I love the flavor it adds. So I cook with a whole onion and then scoop it out before serving.

Oh...and I'm a soaker! So, I start the night before! LOL! Clean and soak the beans overnight and then cook in early morning until skin cracks and then prepare mixture to add to it. I sometimes also add a touch of molasses....just a bit! :)

Thank you for these ideas, JVDHJ! My daughter will enjoy them (she thinks maple is too bland, and salt pork is too blank, she loves the bacon taste). Isn't it great all the ways you can do these??

Ooh, baked beans. I've been on kind of a pseudo-vegetarian kick lately so I probably need some protein in my diet. Thanks for the recipes.

That homemade whole wheat bread looks delicious. I love the smell of freshly baked goodies.

I don't get the chance to eat baked beans that much but I enjoy it whenever I can.

That bread looks so good! My favorite smell in the world is fresh-baked bread. I'm making sourdough today. The loaves are rising, so I haven't gotten to that wonderful smell yet, but it's coming.

YUMMY! I make my own baked beans as well, from a cookbook with recipes from Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Tasty, tasty, tasty.
