When he surfaces, I finally photographed his head and face!
John saw the otter in the bog on November 5, 2010, and once again, I went down to the road with the camera and tripod to try to get better otter photos. This time it worked! I not only got photos of the otter's head, but also of it floating on its back, eating and rolling. This coming summer, I hope to be able to photograph the otters better. But for now, I'm just thrilled that I finally got my otter photos. When you view the large versions of these photos you can see the otter whiskers.
The otter swam for quite awhile, giving me more opportunities.
I've pretty much accepted that, like all wild animals, otters will do whatever they need to do to survive and eat. I shudder when I think of what they do to turtles in the winter, but I am accepting it.There are no "innocent" creatures in Nature.
