Saturday and the Green Mountain Shuffle

What a wonderful weekend! After school Friday I made brownies for the movies at the library. D had told me it would be Harold and Maude and it was. Fifteen people attended. I didn't cut the brownies until after the movie because I had made them so badly this time. At home later, I bought Tea for the Tillerman from the iTunes store: I just can't get enough of that music.

On the way home, there was a female moose diagonally across the road from the house! I braked but she was just standing there watching the world.

Saturday was cold, drizzly and damp. I wanted to get the cats' annual flea treatment but bought the wrong one and I drove me back and forth from Amy and the vet getting the right one. I meandered over to the North Troy crossing to the Owl's Head Bakery for lunch in Mansonville, Que. Customs were no problem this time. In fact, the Canadian customs officer gave me directions to the bakery. On the American side when I returned, I saw the Guantanamo-type holding cages that the Americans have built at the new customs building. Four large chain link cages with barbed wire at the top. They are obviously built to hold people. It is a scar on our nation.

I had promised A's mom that I would be at the premiere of her son's film Green Mountain Shuffle at the Barton Memorial Building, so I drove back home just in time for that:

Award-winning author Michael T. Hahn's first movie is an offbeat love story set in the gorgeous mountains of Vermont. Starring Heather Fitch, Adam Desautels and Derek Campbell, and featuring music by Michael Hahn Band, Green Mountain Shuffle is an unforgettable tale of passion deceit and redemption.
A's mother, father and grandfather sat in front of us. M and her husband D sat behind me. Roger was the host and Michael Hahn introduced the film. A's mom had assured me there would be no risque scenes in the movie but there were! I don't know how she (or A's grandmother!) sat through that but they were very composed. I had a wonderful time with welcoming friends and great conversations.

Then on to the Glover store for food for supper and to Evansville for gas and a movie (A Prairie Home Companion). The day was unplanned and so pleasant! Unfortunately I didn't take my camera but I am sure I will return to the bakery and restaurants in the Eastern Townships. Jim has given me permission to photograph the Glover store. I must do that as soon as possible.

The three common mergansers that appeared Thursday are still here: 2 males and 1 female.

Making A Water Goblet

This movie is a bit better than the VINS raptor movie below. More great memories of a wonderful day.

Birds at VINS

On my wonderful date on April 7, we went to VINS in Quechee and saw these raptors that had been injured and were being treated so that they could then be released. The movie is not good but it holds many great memories.

Red Sox Twitters

The game was called. Spring has retreated. We were allowed to go home an hour early. The drive was the worst of the season because of the wet snow. I slipped several times even though I have studded winter tires on.

But it was a good day. I stopped by the road to take another photo of Jay Peak this morning. A van of parents and students stopped to make sure I was OK. Then another teacher stopped for the same reason. M. told me that she saw me pulled over on Monday and turned around to see if I was OK. I was. I was on Rt. 5 taking a photo of Barton Mountain from the Coventry side. I will have to attach a sign "TAKING PHOTOS" to the car so nobody worries.

The rehearsal for the spring concert was wonderful. I had to sight read because I had failed to practice. But I did fine! I was the best player there! So from now on I will only play with young students who have only one to two years experience on their instruments. It makes me feel great! The concert is May 9.

Tomorrow is the last day of school before vacation. I have activities planned: at least two dates, and a date with my sister in Montpelier for our traditional bookstore tour and lunch at the New England Culinary Institute grill. It may even stop snowing (although as of now, every day on the NOAA forecast has snowflakes in it through Monday).

A Sick Day and Finally Some Good News!

I started to feel sick yesterday morning. But it was a snow day so I could be sick. I had felt awful all week with the biopsy (which is still bothering me), so most likely the tremendous stress caused me to get this cold.

I called in to work last night when I got home from Montpelier. Today was a drag. I may have an ear infection, my eyes are running, but the cough is almost gone. I still have swollen glands. Amy is going to Connecticut this weekend. No other kids have contacted me. Andrew is mad at me for not telling him about the biopsy until it was all over. And I have forgotten that I was supposed to chaperone the school dance tonight! On top of all of this, I have forgotten Xavier's birthday, which is today.

Harold and Maude is on TV right now. I have not watched it in years (even though I own it). I love the Cat Stevens music (even though I couldn't stand Cat Stevens music back when he was popular). I am trying to download some tunes of his but Acquisition has become rife with porn. Ruth Gordon doesn't look half as old as I thought she was years ago! And apparently I have fogotten the story too.

The good news? Here is a cut & paste from Twitter: House Backs Troop Withdrawal in Challenge to Bush (Update4). Don't tell me the Democrats are finally going to take a stand. I have to go off now and see what that's all about. I hope it isn't a tease! And I have to cry over this movie and go to amazon.com for X's gift. Maude died! This is just too sad!

Kham's Thai Cuisine

Amy took me to my first Thai restaurant yesterday in St. Jay. It was OK. The best part was being with Amy. I can survive without Thai food. It seemed to be fancy Chinese food to me. With pineapple, salt and peanuts. I just don't understand the fascination with it. The Ethiopian food when we were in Washington I can also live without. Now Indian food I am willing to explore. I had some last summer that was terrific.

Next weekend the Freight House Restaurant in Lyndonville (already the site of one date I thought was wonderful but wasn't!) is having a St. Patrick's Day dinner from 11am-8pm. I wonder if I can find a date to go. Dating is not all that fun. I don't like being lied to. That seems to be the big problem: lying and misrepresentation. Since I began my quest last year for a lifelong love, I have been lied to and promised things by EVERY man. What's up with the truth anymore? Truth doesn't scare me. Lies scare the shit out of me.

Otherwise the weekend is lousy. It is in the thirties today but it is cloudy and damp so I cannot open up the porches to the sun. The snow is still too deep to go out in it. It may as well be below zero again.

I got a sauce recipe out of Andrew. I hope it is good because I am desperate for real spaghetti. Not Vermont style! I can order the tomatoes online (click the link to the recipe on Andrew's name. At the recipe, click the Marzano graphic at the top of the post for the importer). And tomorrow I can go back to work and be useful again.
