After three weeks of debating names for the new cat, Amelia and I have agreed that George is the best name for him. Zazzy, in a comment on my pets haiku, suggested George because my George reminded her of her George. Amy and I actually agreed: George fits George perfectly! He's laid back and relaxed, but a fighter. He does not challenge Mouse's matriarchal status (and believe me, she is seriously exerting her oldest-lady-of-the-house power) and respects the other girls and Turnip, my timid boy. But the Bad Boys (Buddy, Charlie and Zorro)? That's another problem. They are all spitting about territory and power right now but it's slowly working out. George's fur will, Amy says, improve during the next three months now that he has an excellent diet. His biggest problem will be learning how to clean himself. He was a burly, dirty tomcat but I notice that he is caring for himself better each day. I love this photo of George that I took Sunday morning at dawn. The dew on the grass was sparkling and beautiful. George is calm and safe.

I think George is a most excellent name! I'll bet as his fur starts to sparkle and become more luxurious, George will take more and more pride in grooming.
